MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, Ruth Smeeth, has described Imperial Commercials’ Gary Webb as ‘inspiring’ after the 50-year-old Parts Sales Manager chalked-up 30-years’ service in October with the Cobridge-based commercial vehicle dealer.
Mrs Smeeth, well known for championing employment issues in the city and the wider community, made time specifically to visit Imperial Commercials’ Leek New Road location last week in order to congratulate Gary personally on his commitment and enthusiasm.
“I believe Gary’s steadfast commitment to his work is inspiring, and serves as a gold standard to a younger generation,” she said. “It is Gary’s dedication over three decades that has impressed not just his employer, but the many customers with whom he has formed a lasting partnership. Imperial Commercials should take credit too, for providing an engaging career pathway for Gary and all its staff.”
Imperial Commercials is the UK’s largest independent commercial vehicle dealer group, with its HQ in High Wycombe and with a further 38 locations throughout the country. Its franchises include market-leader DAF Trucks, VW Commercial Vehicles, Ford and FIAT. The company is proud of its rate of employee retention, boasting several individuals with over 10-years loyal service. “We’re extremely proud of our low employee turnover rate,” said Regional Director for Imperial Commercials, John McQue. “Dean Hopkin, Rob Beech, Sean Williams and Paul Thrasher, all members of the Parts team, have 10, 13, 15 and 20 years respectively under their belts. And this loyalty extends to other areas of the business too, and to the wider Imperial Commercials group. “Gary is an invaluable member of our team,” he said, “and his encyclopaedic knowledge of the Parts operation, and his rapport with customers, has been instrumental in maintaining long-term relationships while at the same time contributing significantly to our consistently high KPIs.” Ruth Smeeth MP was joined by some of Gary’s longest-standing customers, keen to acknowledge his impressive milestone. David Gater, Partner at HGV repair centre, CLE Vehicle Repairs, added, “It’s the peace-of-mind that’s so important. Gary takes ownership of any issues we might have. He’s always available,” he said, “and he knows our Parts requirements arguably better than we do. Imperial Commercials, and Gary in particular, are more than just our local commercial vehicle dealer, they’re part of the team.”

HIP HIP BERET! Imperial Commercials Staff up and down the country took part in Hats On For Mental Health Day raising money to help support automotive industry charity Ben.
The day is part of a wider mental health campaign run by Ben and spotlights how mental health can affect anyone, at any time.
The campaign is particularly relevant as recent research shows two thirds of British adults say they have experienced mental ill-health at some point in their lives, according to a survey by the Mental Health Foundation.
In an industry which has a workforce of over 800,000 people, that equates to over 500,000 people potentially affected by mental health challenges!
Last year marked the first year of Hats on 4 Mental Health day – the first ever national fundraising event for the automotive industry. Everyone working in the industry was asked to get involved by wearing a hat to work for a day and last year was a great result – an amazing £13,000 was raised!
